BCCA Team Matches
Quick Update, New Matches against Sheffield, Dilo en Espanol and our BCCTC friends have started
After suffering a couple of early blows in the British Correspondence Chess Team Championship this year, the BCCA A team did well to finish second with 10.5 points out of 18. Following a restructuring of the Championship for 2009/2010, we are fielding just one team this coming year.
If you have not reported to me your results in the matches against BCCS (2008) or SCCA, please let me have them as soon as possible.
In the end the South beat the North convincingly in our internal BCCA friendly. The new Veterans v Non Veterans match has just started. I had to draw the age line at 63/64 in order to give everyone who volunteered a game. How about an East v West fixture in future.
In the Scheming Mind league the Republica Argentina team proved far to strong for us. However, we have made amends against Dreadnoughts! The 4th match in the league starts at the end of December.
A new match against NatCor started recently thanks to Ray Dolan who did much of the work from the NatCor side. Unfortunately the proposed match against Lets Play Chess did not start as ChessWorld were rather disappointed that only 16 BCCA players volunteered this time round.
Phill Beckett has issued a challenge from Sheffield to play a small friendly against BCCA. I am hoping to start this soon on the webserver.
As this is my last report as Matches Captain I would like to thank all who have played in matches over the past seven years. It has been really enjoyable to undertake this role and I have enjoyed especially the contacts with individuals over the years. I am also grateful to the members of our committee for their support and encouragement; and to opposition captains who have been invariably a joy to work with.
I wish my successor Barry Hampton every success as he takes over on 1st January 2010.
Any comments or suggestions for opponents please feel free to contact me.
Phillip
