BCCA Championship 2009-10 | February 5, 2010
Quite a lot of new results have been received so a trip to the tournament tables is worthwhile. In the Championship Peter Mulleady remains in great form and shares first place with J.R. Etherington. Candidates 'A' is led by I.C. Gould who has established a strong lead with 4 from 5.

F. McMahon tops Candidates 'B' with a fine 2½ from 3 whilst no results in 'C' keeps us all guessing!. In Candidates 'D' we have S.J. Cramner topping the table with 2½/5 whilst our industious magazine editor Neil Limbert leads Candidates 'E' with 2½/4 following a 2-0 victory over S.A. Smythe.

The first result in Reserves 'A' gives A. Balshaw the honour of top place whilst Reserves 'B' and 'C' remain tight affairs with no results reported to date.

BCCA Championship 2009-10 | January 10, 2010
Results are now beginning to arrive from the BCCA Championship games and interestingly the very tough Championship section has seen the greatest number of early results where Sutton and Etherington take an early lead with 2½/4. In Candidates A, Gould takes a promising lead with 3½/4 whilst in Candidates E, Dr. Hill and Neil Limbert lead on 1½ although Dr. Hill has played a game less and looks best placed to date.

BCCA Magazine Correspondence ChessEach quarter our superb magazine brings a fascinating set of articles, games and reviews. This quarter we are treated to news of Les Ellis winning Group One of the Bernard Armitage Memorial, an 'Old Indian Defence' is played in Stewart v Hurdle whilst Ian Watson sets 6 glorious puzzles in the 'Find the Continuation' series. Alongside the entertainment there is a request for a BCCA Grading Officer as Geoff Crook stands down after 10 years excellent service to BCCA. Graham Pattrick wins the Handicap 2008-9 whilst Dr. Alan Brown is declared the BCCA Champion. Further information here.

November 19, 2009 | BCCA Email Tournament Update
Maurizio Di Marino reports on recent results and asdjournments. In EM/62 Gary Boswell has 5½/6 and sits comfortably in 1st place. EM/64 sees Ron Cooper 4½/6 holding 1st place. Meanwhile new results in EM/65 show early leaders R. Cooper and J. Etherington tied 2ith 2/2 each although Etherington 2-0 Cooper gives an good advantage for the moment on SB.

November 18, 2009 | BCCA Team Matches
After suffering a couple of early blows in the British Correspondence
Chess Team Championship this year, the BCCA A team did well to finish
second with 10.5 points out of 18. The South beat the North convincingly whilst the Veterans meet the non Veterans in our latest internal match. In the Scheming Mind league the Republica Argentina team proved far to strong for us but we have made amends against Dreadnoughts! The full report may be read at this page.

November 9, 2009 | ICCF CHAMPIONS LEAGUE
ICCFThe BCCA will contribute 50% of the entry fee to any team entering the ICCF Champions League under the BCCA banner and comprising entirely of BCCA members.(AGM decision 6 November) PLease contact Neil LImbert for further details.

 

November 9, 2009 | PLAYER NEEDED FOR ICCF CHAMPIONS LEAGUE (PLACE NOW TAKEN)
Les Ellis, Ted Geiner and Dave Grobler are seeking a fourth to complete a BCCA team to compete in the ICCF Champion's League. The Champion's League is a team event played on the ICCF webserver, so internet access is essential . Each of us will be playing 8-10 games against good opposition (ICCF grade 2000+). ROYAL MAIL INDUSTRIAL ACTION
Royal Mail on StrikeDue to the possibiltiy of industrial action affecting postal services, the BCCA Executive Committee have temporarily relaxed the Playing Rules with regard to timekeeping. Further information is available here.

BRITISH CHAMPIONSHIP NEWS
Unfortunately we have amended Reserves 'B' as Terry Taylor has been withdrawn due to an error on our part in not recognising that Terry should have been allocated a higher section. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.

In the 'William Mason' Championship we have added L. Eastoe and now have an 11-player tournament. Good luck to everyone.

In Candidates 'E' of the 2008-9 tournament we have late results of McEwan 1-0 Lovell and Lovell 0-1 McEwan. In the 2009-10 Candidates 'B' tournament we add R.D. Hirsch whilst in Reserves 'A' we correct the name of G. Moore.

TEAM MATCHES
New matches are about to start against NatCor and against Lets Play Chess (Chessworld). I shall also kick off the Veterans v Non Veterans match once all subscription renewals have been received. Meanwhile BCCA have suffered a couple of early blows in the British Correspondence Chess Team Championship this year. The South have taken a convincing lead against the North with 12 games still to finish. The Republica Argentina match is our first in the Scheming Mind League 2009/2010 season. MEMBERSHIP RENEWAL FORM & CC175
The latest issue of Correspondence Chess was posted out to readers and subscribers last week. Contents included articles by Jonathan Tait, Fred Clough, Peter Bennett and Tim Harding together with a Crossword from Richard Dixon. There were also the usual Find the Continuation‚ Book Reviews, BCCA News and BCCA Results.

Most importantly, members will have also received their Membership Renewal forms for next season enclosed with the magazine. These must be returned by August 31 at the latest, but our hard-working Secretary Stan Grayland would appreciate them sooner if possible!

BCCA GRADING
The latest BCCA grades are now available online. The highest graded players are K W McLaughlin E221, R Withey 216, K Kitson 212, L T Ellis 208. The largest increase in a full grade is G J Howells 114 to 133, Well Done!! The player playing the most graded games was M Hardwick with a total of 54.

EMAIL TOURNAMENTS
A59 has been won by Peter Mulleady with 5½/6, A63 has begun with Ron Cooper, David Howell, Tony Ling and Derek Gallimore. Email Winners Tourney 9 is in play with John Crump, Peter Mulleady, Steve Clark, Derek Gallimore and Gary Boswell.

BCCA Email Tournaments
Maurizio has provided a new update to the email events, we also have a new section with A62 being contested by Gary Boswell, Jon Jenson, Mark Smith and Dan Howell.
